“This STS all-electric order is the first from Long Beach and is a big breakthrough for us,” Vikram Raman, vice-president and commercial director, told CM. “In the past three years we have supplied 30+ STS all-electric spreaders into the global market and now we are to supply 18 units in one order, with the potential for a total of 36 units. It is both satisfying but also challenging for us,” he said, adding that Bromma offered LBCT a product no-one else has.
Raman sees this order as a possible ‘tipping point’ for the product, where early sales were slow and numbered in ones-or-twos before gaining a high profile significant order such as that placed by Long Beach. “Previously the largest order was for six GreenlineSTS all-electric spreaders; this is triple that order,” he said.
It is believed that one of the important factors behind the order is the focus on emission control issues by the port, reducing to a minimum its impact the environment. The spreaders will incorporate ‘Green Zone’, a new suite of software tools ensuring terminal operation are utilising its resources in an optimised way to generate higher profit.
