According to Busan Port Authority (BPA) president Lim Ki-tack, the new terminal will be unique not only in Korea, but also globally, for its 20 m alongside depth that will allow it to accommodate vessels of more than 20,000 teu capacity.
With a capacity of 800,000 teu and a 700 m berth length, the terminal will be able to accommodate two vessels at the same time and boost both the productivity and competitiveness of Busan Port.
The intention is for a terminal operator to be chosen in 2015, construction to finish in 2017 and operations to begin in 2018.
