The new terminals will feature an automated container yard equipped with proprietary intelligent planning and operation systems, as well as unmanned rail mounted gantry cranes. These, along with those installed on the quay, will run on electricity to be more environmentally sustainable.
The implementation of automation and technology is expected to increase port productivity. PPT will have a total of 15 new berths, with nearly 6,000 metres of quay length and up to 18 m draught, making it able to serve the next generation of containerships.
When fully developed over the decade, the new terminals are expected to boost Singapore’s total container handling capacity to 50m teu per year, meeting future growth of global trade and the long-term needs of PSA’s customers.
