The service, operating twice weekly in both directions, is run by Kombiverkehr KG in Frankfurt, in partnership with the Italian intermodal operator Cemat and Stena Line, which operates the ferry link between Kiel and Gothenburg in Sweden.
The start date was chosen deliberately to allow the completion of rail construction works on the Brenner route, as well as adequate rolling stock to be available so to avoid further problems being experienced at sensitive Alpine transit bottleneck routes.
The service operates from Kiel every Wednesday and Sunday, with departures from Verona (QE Terminal) on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Initially the trains will be capable of handling 1,300 tonnes per departure.
