IPC Announces first stage of container terminal construction ten

The first stage of the process is the pre-qualification (PQ) stage. Eligible civil/marine contractors with required experience and expertise must be pre-qualified to participate in the competitive bidding process which will take place in the second stage. The deadline for applying to be pre-qualified is January 28, 2013. Single entities or joint ventures can apply for pre-qualification under the tender terms.

The IPC expects to complete the design of the new container terminals in Haifa and Ashdod this year and is concurrently progressing with the permitting process. The Government has delegated the decision on the timing of the terminal developments to the Transport and Finance Ministers who have not yet decided which of the two terminals will be developed first or if they will be developed in parallel. Initial operations of the first terminal are targeted for 2018.

Each of the terminals has been designed to handle triple E size vessels. Both projects include a primary quay 1,050-1,100 m long, breakwater extensions and lee breakwaters of differing lengths, as well as extensive dredging and reclamation works.
