Investments include the construction of a tunnel under Biscayne Bay for quick and more efficient access to port facilities. Scheduled for completion in May 2014, the tunnel will directly link PortMiami to the nation’s interstate highway system.
On-dock rail is returning to PortMiami and in partnership with Florida East Coast Railway, the Port will offer shippers fast access to markets in the Southeastern US and America’s heartland, reaching over 70% of the nation’s population in one to four days.
The Port recently announced that the contracting phase to deepen PortMiami’s channel to minus 50 feet has begun with the solicitation of bids by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The project will be completed in tandem with opening of the expanded Panama Canal scheduled for early 2015.
