In October the fifth Liebherr mobile supplied to customers in Mexico started operation in the port of Manzanillo. The new LHM 550 joins the container handling fleet of Operadora de la Cuenza del Pacifico (OCUPA) and is the biggest container handling mobile harbour crane in the port with a 54m outreach.
Another LHM 550 has already proved its capabilities with Terminales Portuarias del Pacífico (TPP), in the port of Lázaro Cárdenas on Mexico’s Pacific coast. The bulk terminal opened in the spring 2012 and features a new LHM 550 in four rope grab configuration. The crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 75 tonnes in grab operation and is equipped with a 38 cubic meter clamshell grab for handling bulk materials like iron ore and coal.
The crane’s drivers rely on Cycoptronic crane control system, which automatically initiates dynamic counterbalancing movements and equalises transverse as well as longitudinal sway of the load while operating at maximum speed, to maximise performance. Additionally, the crane drivers are able to achieve even higher levels of productivity by using Liebherr’s Teach-In point-to-point control for semiautomatic operation.
