The contract comes on the back of a new UK STS productivity record, set by one of the manufacturer’s Megamax cranes currently operating at the port, which moved a total of 651 containers, equating to more than 54 container moves an hour in a 12 hour shift.
Speaking about the recent record and subsequent order, Pat O’Leary, managing director of Liebherr Container Cranes, said, “This contract will bring the number of our STS cranes at the port to ten and reflects the confidence that ABP and DP World Southampton have in the ability of Liebherr products to deliver their requirements in respect of performance and customer service”.
With a lift height over rail of 47.5 metres and an outreach of 65 m, the cranes will be able to work the largest container vessels of up to 24 rows; they will have a span of 35 m and a backreach of 16 m, giving a total trolley travel of 116 m. They will be operational early in 2014.
