In volume terms, the company handled 4,083,842 teu (consolidated), a rise of 6% over the first nine months of 2011. The company put this increase down to growth in both its international and domestic trades, along with new shipping line customers and routes. In addition, it also identified the continuous containerisation of break- bulk cargoes.
Contributing to growth were the company’s new ports in Portland, Oregon, USA and Rijeka, Croatia, as well as the consolidation of the volumes generated by its new container terminal operations in Jakarta, Indonesia. Excluding the volume from the three recent port acquisitions, organic volume growth was 4%.
Volumes at the Group’s six key terminal operations in Manila, Brazil, Poland, Ecuador, Madagascar and China, accounted for 74% of consolidated volume, a rise of 7% from 2,845,894 teu to 3,039,898 teu.
