New straddle carrier order for Liebherr

The machines, with the capacity to stack containers one-over-two high, will be fitted with 50-tonne Stinis twin lift spreaders, allowing individual twin handling of a twenty foot containers; they will also incorporate the Liebherr drive and control system as well as facilitating remote access to the crane management system and operational statistics.

Liebherr already has five ship-to-shore (STS) cranes in operation at the Port of Tauranga, the first of which was supplied in 1979.

“It is a pleasure to supply these straddle carriers to help bring about increased capacity and productivity in view of the recent surge in the port’s handling volumes,” said Paul Bolger, LCCs mobile product manager.
