The increase was driven by growth at Bejaia Mediterranean Terminal in Algeria, which saw a sizable 20% increase from 200,000 teu to around 240,000 teu. Other terminals under Portek’s management also achieved high single digit percentage throughput increases.
CEO, Takao Omori, said: “We are very pleased with having broken through the 1m teu mark. With the addition of our latest acquisition Riga Universal Terminal into our portfolio of ports in April this year, we are marching steadily towards becoming a more significant player in the global port industry.”
Headquartered in Singapore, Portek is a medium-sized terminal operator and port equipment engineering provider. The Group currently operates and manages three terminals in Indonesia, two in Gabon and one each in Algeria, Malta and Latvia. In addition it also operates an inland cargo handling and storage facility in Rwanda.
