Storm causes extensive damage to ‘MOL Comfort’
The 26 crew (11 Russians, 1 Ukrainian, 14 Filipinos) on board took to lifeboats and have been safely rescued by other vessels in the area.
A crack amidships has resulted in water entering the hold, making it impossible for the vessel to continue on under its own power. Some containers on the vessel have been lost overboard or suffered damage during the incident. Full details are still being confirmed.
The 8,000 teu capacity vessel was built in 2008.
