The facility’s quay wall has been extended 400 m to 3,000 m, allowing the simultaneous handling of six mega ships. Together with ‘Container Terminal 3’, with its 1,860 m quay, 70 ha storage yard and draught of 17 m, which is currently under construction, Jebel Ali Port will reach 19m teu capacity by 2014. It will then be able to handle 10 of the mega new generation vessels at the same time – the only port in the region able to do so.
“Expanding Jebel Ali Port’s capacity in line with market demand is part of our commitment to be always ready to meet the emerging needs of the shipping lines and traders. This is also true of our pipeline of expansion projects and new developments across the DP World portfolio,” said Mohammed Sharaf, DP World’s group chief executive officer.
