Container Management can confirm from sources close to the project that the PSA is: “once again interested in bidding for the same project, not as a re-negotiation but as a new tender altogether”.
The move comes less than a year after the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust Board withdrew its original ‘letter of award’ to the Singapore-based port operator in October last year (2012), citing that as a result of delays and defaults by the PSA-led consortium, the letter was considered null and void.
The original concession, designed to create a 4.8m teu/year capacity facility, was awarded to PSA International back in September 2011. However progress was painfully slow and the consortium refused to sign the concession agreement while seeking to modify and amend it. This tested the patience of both the port administration and the Indian government.
