The order follows the terminal operator’s previous order in January this year for 22 units. Delivery of the new machines,which have identical technical specifications to the initial vehicles, will follow on from the end of the existing order’s delivery schedule in April 2014.
The AGV is a joint product of VDL Containersystemen, VDL Steelweld, APTS and various supply companies. In 2009, the manufacturer was approached to develop a new prototype AGV, creating a completely new product within a year.
The unit has a hybrid drivetrain, significantly reducing diesel consumption and emission of harmful gases, and is capable of transporting 20′, 40′, 45′ or 2×20′ containers with loads up to 70 tonnes, running at speeds of up to 6 m/s.
