In June, the company handled 9,351 teu, an increase of 58.6% compared to the same month in 2012, with total exports growing by 33%, contradicting the domestic market which saw Brazil’s exports declined 0.7% in the first half of 2013, according to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.
“This record amount of container traffic is partially a result of the efforts dedicated to this project by our employees,” explained Portonave’s administrative officer, Osmari de Castilho Ribas. New equipment, expanded services and trade agreements, as well as the arrival of larger vessels, were also seen as contributing factors.
Recognising its environmental responsibility, the company invested in various projects and initiatives, including the planting of 6,000 tree seedlings to offset carbon emissions from its terminal equipment.
