TTI Algeciras is the first semi-automatic terminal in Southern Europe and the new machines will add to the existing fleet of 20 Kalmar units and they will handle containers from 20′ to 40′.
The SCH250H units have been fitted with twin extendable spreaders and are capable of lifting up to 50 tonnes. According to Kalmar, the SCH250H features a spacious operator cabin with excellent all-round visibility and the driver’s seat rotates 180 degrees allowing the machine to be driven in both directions from the same driver position. Productivity is further enhanced through Kalmar’s patented Smoothlift(TM) hoist system.
“TTI was the first terminal in Europe to specify Kalmar shuttle carriers,” said Ignacio de Sebastián, Kalmar’s senior sales manager.
Capable of handling the latest and future generations of ultra large container vessels, TTI Algeciras began operating in 2010 with the objective of progressively handling up to 1.8m teu. By 2012 the terminal had exceeded the 1m teu landmark and it is expected to achieve the same in 2013. The terminal comprises two quay lines of 850 m on the east quay and 550 m on the north quay, with depths alongside of 18.5 and 17.5 m respectively.
