Following another spate of law-breaking and another boarding of a vessel five weeks ago, a reliable CM source said that a third truce was agreed Thursday evening (October 24) in which DP World will use its own labour force for 50% of vessels calls and OGMO casual labour pool for the remaining 50%.
CM can exclusively reveal that just before a second 30 day truce between management of the DP World backed port facility and dock workers’ unions was about to finish this weekend, officials from the two unions fighting the corner for OGMO – the Santos Stevedores Union (SSU) and Sintraport – went to Brazil’s capital Brasilia along with executives from Embraport.
After full and frank discussions with senior members of Dilma Rousseff’s government, an agreement was thrashed out which will hold for 12 months. Whilst it is believed that the agreement will keep both the government and the unions happy the same cannot be said for Embraport and the terminal operating companies hoping to buy into the Brazilian ports revolution and sign up for concessions where they don’t have to use expensive OGMO labour.
