The online application shows, per connected shipping company, the inland terminals where shippers and logistical service providers can pick up and deposit empty containers, re-using them later for a new load.
This means that it is no longer necessary to always return the empty boxes to Rotterdam, saving many unnecessary miles.
Currently it is estimated that 25% – or some 2.5m teu – of all containers shipped by road, rail or inland shipping are empty, which has a negative impact on costs, efficiency and the environment.
