The three organisations will jointly develop and subsequently implement a maritime training plan for South Africa for a five-year period from October 2013 to September 2018.
Tau Morwe, chief executive of Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), said: “We recognize that safety, security, efficiency and regularity of sea navigation and harmonious progress of international maritime activities rely on the continuous training of maritime personnel. We also recognise the importance of assistance and co-operation in the field of specialised maritime training… This MoU determines the basis on which we will cooperate with one another to our mutual benefit for the purposes of providing training in maritime and related disciplines.
“Ongoing maritime training and education is vital to TNPA as it builds mission critical skills capacity to improve efficiencies and reduce the cost of doing business. This MoU takes us a step closer to our objective,” he added.
