Germany accounted for the majority of the increase although volumes on the Denmark, Belgium and UK routes were all up compared with the same period in 2012.
“It may be modest but it’s the first time for several years that there’s been an increase in ro-ro traffic, which has been affected over a long period by the weak European economy. The rate of decline has now slowed, which is hopefully a good sign,” said Magnus Kårestedt, Port of Gothenburg’s CEO.
Fewer containers were handled during Q3 with volumes down 9% compared with the corresponding period last year.
