Equally, Singapore-based Pacific International Lines (PIL) has seen volumes increase by 17.5% this year compared to 2012, shipping 1m teu through the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network. The milestone container was handled at APM Terminals Apapa, in Nigeria.
Martijn Van de Linde, CEO for ADT, commented: “We are very proud of what we have accomplished over the past year. Surpassing the 1m teu mark is a significant milestone in the development of Khalifa Port.”
The port started commercial operations at the end of 2012, when all container traffic was transferred from the city centre Zayed Port, which had been serving the emirate for more than 40 years, but had reached full capacity with no space to expand.
