During the three month study the consultancy considered the economic and technical viability of a multi-purpose deep water port on the west coast of Borneo, carrying out extensive analysis and research on areas including: hinterland market assessment, throughput forecasting, technical review for port suitability, along with various conceptual layout design exercises and financial viability assessments.
The existence of a new port in Kijing would connect West Kalimantan with the principal intra-Asian shipping network, improving the region’s connectivity and logistical efficiencies.
“While the rest of the world is still feeling the effects of the global financial crisis, Indonesia is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia,” explained Johnny Tjea, president director of BMT Asia Pacific Indonesia.
