This percentage is destined to reach 50% as a result of the port’s development plans; these will strengthen the railway system and the recently formed ‘La Spezia Shunting Railways’ company that will manage the port’s entire railway service.
At a ceremony to celebrate the 100,000th wagon, Lorenzo Forcieri, president of the La Spezia Port Authority, Marco Simonetti, vice-president of Contship Italia Maritime Terminals, and Michele Giromini, and managing director of La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT), deemed the milestone as a success, achieved through the joint commitment of rail and intermodal operators, together with the terminal and maritime community as a whole.
“Our goal is to continue to grow the volume share via rail and we are confident that all of the stakeholders in the La Spezia system are working together with us in the same direction,” said Giromini.
