Three of the world’s largest and most modern ship-to-shore (STS) quay cranes have arrived at Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port, the first semi-automated container terminal in the region.
The ZPMC Super post-Panamax cranes which cost more than US$28m will join the six already operational cranes at Khalifa bringing the total to nine units. In addition, six Konecranes automated stacking cranes (ASC) have recently joined the 30 other ASCs at Khalifa and a further six are expected to arrive in the next few weeks. Both batches represent an overall investment of US42m.
The new cranes will increase Khalifa’s capacity by 750,000 teu.
