It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Larry Lam, the founder and former chairman of Portek International Pte, the global medium-sized terminal operator and port equipment engineering firm, who passed away on 11 February at the age of 62, with his family close by his side.
Through his enterprising “can-do” spirit in business, he impacted the lives of many, directly and indirectly, being both a mentor and friend for all those with whom he worked. His generous nature extended beyond business into areas of community work as well as philanthropy.
It was back in 1988 that he founded Portek, pioneering many aspects of the port equipment engineering business, notably the turnkey sale or lease of refurbished ship-to-shore gantry cranes and rubber-tyred gantry cranes.
