International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) has agreed to extend its temporary contract to operate Tacloban Port for an additional six months, guaranteeing operations while the port continues to recover from Typhoon Yolanda.
The Philippine Port Authority (PPA) had earlier called on the services of the company to take over operations at Tacloban to give Leyte Integrated Port Services, the existing cargo-handling operator, time to recover as its equipment was damaged by last November’s typhoon.
The Manilla-based terminal operator dispatched equipment worth over P200m (US$4.5m) including 12 forklifts, seven generator sets, six tower lights, five payloaders and several reachstackers. In addition a start-up team of engineers, operations managers and staff plus equipment operators were sent from the company’s Manila International Container Terminal.
