An investment of AED20m (US$5.4m) is being made by the Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) to carry out essential maintenance work at Zayed Port and its neighboring Freeports, to repair the quayside wall, enhancing the ports’ facilities and services.
The work will be carried out in phases over the next six months to minimise disruption and maintain safe operations at both ports. Zayed Port, which was inaugurated in 1972, has become the main gateway in the Emirate for ro-ro and general cargo vessels
“It’s a good time to do the maintenance because all container cargo is being handled at Khalifa Port. However, the ro-ro and cruise business, and the amount of bulk and general cargo handled at Zayed Port, is increasing steadily. We are keen to complete the work to ensure that the quayside in both ports is in top condition for many years”, said Waleed Al Tamimi, vice president, asset management ports.
