There is increasing evidence of UK companies reshoring manufacturing back to the UK, with one in six companies moving production within the last three years. While this marks a positive outlook for the UK manufacturing sector, supply chain consultancy Crimson & Co warns that this trend it could affect current supply chains.
The consultancy urges business leaders to tread carefully and to “thoroughly assess the best manufacturing option for them – not just follow the trend”.
Dave Alberts, a director at Crimson & Co states: “The growing complexity of supply chains and the closing wage gaps in countries such as China are driving a need to look again at where to source products or situate manufacturing. Reshoring production is growing in importance”.
