The Port of Helsinki’s unitised cargo traffic experienced a slight growth at the beginning of the year: traffic in January-February was 1.5m tonnes, which was a 1% increase on the previous year.
Exports, in particular, continued their positive development, with a growth rate of 6% in January-February. However, imports remained weak and decreased by 3% compared to the previous year.
One third of the unitised cargo traffic was transported in containers and two thirds were transported on rubber wheels. Rubber-wheeled traffic experienced some growth, while container traffic saw a slight decline. The number of containers in January-February was 62,000 teu (-9%), and the amount of cargo transported in them totalled 500,000 tonnes (-3%) The number of transported trucks and trailers totalled 75,000 (2%) with a total cargo amount of 1m tonnes (3%).
