Barcelona Europe South Terminal (BEST) has taken delivery of six 50-tonne Kalmar diesel hydraulic, one-over-one shuttle carriers for its semi-automated terminal in the Port of Barcelona.
Currently the facility, operated by Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), has eight super post-Panamax quay cranes operating along its 1,000 m berth with a draught of 16.5 m, supported by 36 automatic stacking cranes (ASCs) and now, 26 shuttle carriers. It deploys the HPH in-house developed Next Generation Terminal Management System (nGen).
The next phase of the terminal’s development, which is scheduled to be fully operational within a year, will see the berth increased to 1,500 m and equipped with 11 super post-Panamax quay cranes and 54 ASCs.
