A revived Ravenna

TCR Ravenna

Italy’s Ravenna Container Terminal (TCR) has completed the commissioning of a second new quay crane as part of a programme to upgrade its facilities to accommodate larger ship sizes up to 8,000 teu capacity from the current 2,800/3,000 teu range.

A €8m (US$11m) investment programme began in March 2012 and has just been completed with no negative impact on the terminal’s operation despite the 8% volume growth in 2013. OMG-MGM and Control Techniques (Emerson Group), in conjunction with TCR’s technical department planned and managed the on-site project.

The “new” cranes have an outreach of 17 containers across, 35.5 m under spreader and an improved lifting capacity up to 55 tons. The cabins are equipped with Brieda Cabins’ Dynamic Control Station which significantly improves crane operators’ comfort and operating conditions. According to TCR, new electronic solutions will also provide 30% energy saving, resulting in better operation performances and lower fuel consumption.
