Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) the recently opened facility in the Port of Santos, has launched a ro-ro general cargo service. In an agreement with Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL), BTP is responsible for scheduling, storing, handling and loading general cargo booked by the ship owner.
On April 22, the Norwegian ro-ro vessel mv Tasco was loaded with project cargo including crushers, water treatment equipment and electric generators, mounted on mafi trailers. Operations began at 1:30 am and were completed in two hours after which the ship sailed for Panama’s Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) in the Port of Colon.
“The service will call at the terminal every 15 days, and may switch into a weekly call, according to the market demand”, said Alan Lear, BTP’s commercial director.
