Global Container Terminals (GCT) has celebrated the grand opening of its newly expanded, semi-automated facility at Bayonne, New Jersey, which the company claims will be the most productive marine terminal on the US East Coast once complete this summer.
Built on land adjoining Global’s existing facility, the new development is located before the entrance of the Bayonne Bridge, with unrestricted air and water draught. The increased 823 m (2,700 feet) quay frontage of contiguous berth makes it capable of accommodating the largest vessels transiting the Suez and expanded Panama canals.
“In all GCT’s operations, densification is our strategy to avoid the use of additional lands as container volumes grow,” said Stephen Edwards, president and CEO of GCT Global Container Terminals Inc.
