Container shipping companies have been urged to raise the Asia-US freight rates by at least US$600 per 40-foot container (FEU), with effect from 1st August, by their organisation the TSA, following a sustained third-quarter cargo demand across major commodity segments.
Members of the TSA (Transpacific Stabilization Agreement) include 15 of the world’s major container shipping lines, including Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), CMA CGM, COSCO, Hanjin Shipping and others.
Last week’s spot freight rates calculated by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange showed FEU rates from Asia to the US standing at US$3,648.
