Japan-based Yusen Logistics is seeking patents for what it calls an “innovative ocean transportation service” that enables double stacking of products inside ocean containers.
Trial movements, carried out in April, confirmed the security of the specialised decks that are suspended from the roof of the container and which divide the interior into upper and lower sections, optimising use of space; the system can be customised to customers’ own requirements.
Although not the first time interior decking has been utilised, this latest concept was developed in collaboration with Monohakobi Technology Institute (MTI), the R & D subsidiary of Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line).
