The Port of Rotterdam is cutting container inspection delays by introducing high-power X-ray scanners, capable of capturing clear images of containers on trains moving at 60km/h.
Dutch Customs at the port can now scan almost 200,000 rail containers a year, i.e. one container every few seconds.
Another group of operators can be located in a secure inspection office several kilometres away where they collect and analyse X-ray images to weed out potential threats, according to a report in Government Security News magazine.
