Terex Port Solutions (TPS) is to supply Libra Terminais Rio S/A (Libra) with 12 Terex electric rubber-tyred gantry (ERTG) cranes, with delivery to the Libra terminal in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, scheduled for this autumn. They will be shipped fully-assembled, from the TPS plant in Xiamen in China.
This investment in the new equipment is Libra’s response to a considerable increase in handling rates at the terminal. “We are currently handling approximately 250,000 teu per year, a volume which stretched our previous infrastructure to its limits,” said João Pedro Rotta from Libra, adding that the 12 cranes will extend the terminal’s fleet.
The cranes will be powered with electricity from the terminal’s electricity supply, via a cable drum on the crane, thereby eliminating exhaust emissions and reducing noise; energy costs will be substantially lower thanks to the improved efficiency rating compared to conventional diesel-powered cranes.
