The Port of Gothenburg’s half year results revealed a fall in global container trade despite European freight volumes strengthening in the six months until the end of June.
Container traffic decreased by 9% to 424,000 teu compared to 463,000 teu over the same period last year, with exports falling more than imports.
Chief executive, Magnus Kårestedt remarked: “This could be an indication that Swedish trade with rapidly expanding economies in other parts of the world is not growing at the same rate as previously.”
