Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has inaugurated a new 595 m long berth at the Port of Hamburg’s Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB). The €85.5m (US$112.7m) project at berth 5/6 includes five ZPMC 110-tonne tandem-lift gantry cranes, with an outreach across 24 container rows, allowing CTB to handle the latest generation of mega-ships of up to 18,000 teu capacity.
Dr. Stefan Behn, the executive board member of HHLA who is responsible for the container segment, said: ‘With the new berth 5/6, we are able to handle the world’s largest container ships quickly and efficiently.
“The increase in handling capacity helps us to manage the peak loads caused by the ever-growing number of increasingly larger ships. Our customers can therefore also even better keep the container mega-ships on their tight schedules.
