Ship classification society DNV GL has presented Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) with an approval in principle (AIP), which recognises the feasibility of the clean Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fuel system design for the line’s new series of container ships.
The series of 11 14,500 teu vessels and six 18,800 teu vessels are being built by HHI for UASC and intend to use LNG as ship fuel.
The AIP was prepared as part of DNV GL’s “LNG Ready” service, demonstrating that the designs will enable a cost and time efficient conversion for LNG fuel operation.
