The US Army Corps of Engineers has released the Draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Impact Statement for the Post-45 Harbour Deepening project, recommending that the Charleston Harbour be deepened to 52 feet.
The tentatively selected plan suggests deepening the inner harbour from its current 45 feet to a depth of 52 feet. The entrance channel would be extended and deepened from its current 47 feet to 54 feet.
The deepening is expected to cost in the region of US$509m, with the federal share an estimated US$166m and the state picking up the rest of the tab with US$343m.
