The Puerto Rican government has announced that it is looking for a large, international port operator to work with on the development of the Port of the Americas.
The Port of the Americas is located in Ponce, Puerto Rico’s second-biggest city on the South Coast of the island, and has a site of over 300 acres and a capacity of 500,000 teu.
The Government has invested over US$285m in the port over recent years, including dredging the entrance channel and berths to 15 m (50 feet), the deepest in Puerto Rico, and adding two super post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes and 1,333 m of quay.
