Representatives from the three main global regulators all expressed a desire for closer cooperation at the European Maritime Law Organisation’s conference in London last week.
Li Hongyin, deputy director general for domestic and international shipping affairs of the Chinese ministry of transport said: “China would be ready to join hands with the EU and US, exchanging views, coordinating positions and sharing necessary information, with a view to the development of globally harmonised norms or criteria on shipping alliances.”
US Federal Maritime Commissioner Richard Lidinsky also called for co-operation such as the free sharing of evidence and other data with other regulators.
