The Port of Tema in Ghana will undergo a four-year, US$1.5bn expansion which will make it the largest port in West Africa with a capacity of 3.5m teu.
The project is being funded through a public-private partnership between the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GHPHA) and a group of terminal operators led by Meridian Port Services and including APM Terminals and Bolloré Africa Logistics.
Four deepwater berths will be built, along with an access channel to accommodate larger vessels with high capacity equipment.
