Dunkerque invests and increases throughput by 7%

Throughput at the Northern French port of Dunkerque increased by 7% in 2014, over 2013, to 310,000 teu.

Of this throughput, 177,000 teu was made up of full containers, a  6% increase on 2013.

Over the course of 2014, €32m (US$37m) was invested in the first year of the port’s five-year investment program.

In 2015, €39m (US$45m) will be invested, mainly in the Western Port. Projects include the €10m (US$11m) renovation of the Channel Terminal; the completion of road link improvements; the start of works to improve access for shipping and the development of infrastructure to accommodate logistics businesses in the offshore wind power industry.

On 12 February, the port will host the first call of an Ocean Three service which will journey between Northern Europe and Asia. This service will call at Tianjin, Dalian, Qingdao, Shanghai, Yantian, Busan, Port Kelang, Beirut and Jeddah.

Other ports and terminal operators have recently announced their results including Kiel, Contship Italia and Santa Marta.
