United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), has announced an order of 2,000 reefer containers from Daikin, with further units to follow this year.
The containers come fitted with the Japanese manufacturer’s latest LXE 10E “H” model reefer unit, producing a 50% drop in power consumption compared to the earliest model from 2001.
Ongoing investment in the units, which feature a sensitive temperature control system to carry frozen and chilled cargoes, will enhance the shipping company’s access to South American trades, following a recent service agreement with Hamburg Süd.
Gareth Madsen, head of reefer management at UASC said the company intended to order more reefer units this year, while stating that Daikin’s products “set the industry benchmark” for quality, performance and reliability.
Madsen continued: “It fits UASC’s overarching commitment to investment in eco-efficiency and environmentally responsible operations, which we believe is good for our business, good for our customers and good for our planet.”
Katsuhiro Tetsuya, Diakin’s reefer container division director, said: “It is a privilege to be part of UASC’s ambitious growth strategy. The latest Daikin LXE 10 E “H” Model sets new standards in terms of energy efficiency and reliability, directly supporting UASC’s focus on delivering outstanding customer service.”
UASC’s reefer purchase follows a trend of recent expansion which includes a new building program featuring 11 15,000 teu vessels and six 18,800 teu vessels, plus the formation of the Ocean Three alliance and an extensive cooperation pact with Hamburg Süd.
