The CEO of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) Jorge Luis Quijano has said that the Canal hopes to gain an additional two weekly services a week because of the US West Coast ports disruption.
Speaking to The Financial Times at the Trans-Pacific Maritime conference on Tuesday, he said that, after the canal has expanded to be able to host vessels of up to 14,000 teu, it had originally hoped to win four or five additional Asia to US East Coast services.
However, after congestion caused by a contract dispute between workers and employers at West Coast ports, the canal hopes to win six or seven to add to the ten it already hosts.
