Eurofos has chosen the N4 operating system as part of ongoing modernisation at its Fos-sur-Mer container terminal in the south of France.
The package is offered by Navis of California which claims the software and related technology, including the PrimeRoute and Expert Decking optimisation modules, will enable Fos to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, support evolving business requirements and gain a competitive advantage in the region.
Eurofos currently relies on an in-house system and outsourced IT support for its terminal operating system.
At the end of last year the Marseilles-Fos port authority announced a four-year plan which involves €360m of investments before 2018. They include improving multi-modal links with hinterland markets such as Switzerland, Austria and Southern Germany and, when the authority deems it necessary, dredging to a 16 m draught to accommodate 16,000 teu ships.
The port increased container traffic by 7% in 2014 to a record 1.18m teu, thanks to a 10% rise in volumes at the two deep-sea Fos2XL terminals. The largely short-sea terminal of Marseilles saw a throughput fall of 5%.
