Indonesia set to see new deep-sea ports by 2018
Four of five planned deep-sea port projects to boost sea transport are expected to be ready to begin services by 2018, an Indonesian minister has stated.
Indroyono Susilo, coordinating minister for maritime affairs, made the announcement that will see the new ports built at Kuala Tanjung in North Sumatra, Kalibaru in Jakarta, Teluk Lamong in East Java and New Makassar in South Sulawesi.
The projects, envisaged in President Joko Widodo’s plan to boost sea transport, are highly expected to cut logistic costs down from 28% of the nation’s GDP to 20% after 2018.
